At least 12 people were killed and more than 100 houses damaged in mudslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rains in India's remote north-east, officials said. Officials said the death toll could go up, as heavy rain was hampering rescue work in the Arunachal Pradesh state that borders China.
Most victims died after their houses collapsed or they were washed away by flash floods, local legislator TG Rinpoche said. In the neighbouring Assam state, more than 10,000 people have been displaced after 150 villages were inundated by floodwaters.
