A flash flood watch is in effect for all of North Texas through 7:00 tonight as a 40 percent chance of rain remains across the region. FOX 4 meteorologist Evan Andrews said the low pressure system that was bringing most of the rain was moving north.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms have dropped several inches of rain since Monday. Wednesday morning, brief, heavy downpours soaked some areas of North Texas, especially along Highway 75 in Collin County. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain fell near McKinney and Allen, flooding portions of Highway 5 and other roads in the area.
The water had started receding by afternoon. Heavy showers were also reported west of Mineral Wells and west of Bowie. The wet weather kept high temperatures in the mid-80s -- well below the average high for August. Showers and storms are also possible on Thursday, with a 30 percent chance of rain.
Sunny skies and warmer temperatures should return by the weekend.
