A 5.5 MAGNITUDE earthquake shook northern Chile overnight, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damages. The epicenter of the quake was 152km south-east of Copiapo at a depth of 86km, the US Geological Survey said. Copiapo, about 800km north of Santiago, is the capital of a province of the same name. "There have been no reports of personal or material damages," Chile's National Emergency Office said. Chile is the world's biggest copper producer and most of its mines are in its northern region. However none of the major copper mines are located in the immediate vicinity of Copiapo.
