The Bureau of Meteorology says over a century of Northern Territory climate records have been broken by a deluge of heavy rainfall across the Top End. Last month, Victoria River Downs Station, south of Timber Creek, recorded 747 millimetres of rain. The Bureau's Sam Cleland says that is the highest monthly total ever. "We have 120 years of rainfall records for Victoria River Downs and they have smashed their February record this month," he said. "The previous highest was only just a couple of years ago in 2004, so it's been a wet period for the Victoria River District and this year was it's crowning glory so far." Darwin has also recorded its highest ever number of rainy days for February.
