A storm has swept through Sydney and southern New South Wales leaving thousands of people without electricity.
The band of heavy rain and hailstones is still passing over areas north of Sydney and a storm warning has been extended to the state's mid-north coast.
Thirty millimetres of rain fell in fifteen minutes at Bellambi in Wollongong and winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour have been recorded in Sydney's western suburbs.
The bad weather has cut the rail line south of Sydney and disrupted operations at Sydney Airport, where flights are being delayed for up to 90 minutes.
