Freezing temperatures are expected to lead to dangerous conditions following flooding and snow showers in western England and the Midlands.
Thousands of rail and road users were hit by travel chaos after more than 30mm of rain fell on Friday.
Among the worst-hit areas were Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. In North Somerset, children at a primary school had to be rescued after being cut off.
Parents carried about 40 pupils through neighbouring gardens to get to safety.
Some of the children were rescued from Chew Stoke Primary School using a tractor.
Head teacher Sarah Fuller said: "The children were excited and we played the incident down. The team of staff was absolutely fantastic. They got on the phones and told parents to come and collect their children.
"One couple trying to collect their children had their car swept away - it's been written off and it's now in farmland."

The UK faces flash floods and travel chaos as heavy rain and gale-force winds start to take effect, the BBC weather service has warned.
The storms are expected to drive in from the west to southern England and Wales during Tuesday.
Tewkesbury after the Rivers Severn and Avon flooded last summer
Rain and gale-force winds are predicted to hit the rest of England, Northern Ireland and Scotland later on.
Roads and train tracks, even in city centres, face the prospect of being swamped, the BBC said.
Tomasz Schafernaker, a BBC weather forecaster, said that flash floods could be expected, even in London's underpasses, due to the volume of rain overwhelming drainage systems.

Matt Dobson, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, said western England would be the worst hit by overnight rain. "The South West will really get the brunt of the heavy rain. It will have the heaviest rain in that part of the country. It could rain up to 40mm in places. "Our winter weather is controlled by the Atlantic, the wet weather coming in with the wind from the west. It's moving through briskly."
Flood warnings have remained in place since Friday, when flash flooding brought roads and railways to a standstill. More than 30mm of rain fell that day and travellers were delayed by motorway closures on the M5 and train diversions on the Great Western railway. Last July, chaos hit western England and the Midlands after the worst flooding recorded since 1947. More than 4,000 homes and 500 businesses across Gloucestershire were affected by flooding. Many residents of flood-hit Tewkesbury still remain in caravans after being displaced from their homes.
Kelly Bartlett, chairman of the Longlevens Flood Committee in Gloucester, one of the city's worst-affected wards, said the council had begun last-ditch efforts to widen and deepen the brook which runs through her area, and that residents were busy lining the streets with sandbags. She said: "We've only just moved back into our homes after the flooding last summer. On Friday we were fighting once again to save ourselves from flooding. It's ridiculous. We can't live like this, every time it rains we're running home to save our possessions.
In Gloucestershire, overnight rain had not caused as many problems as feared. A Gloucestershire police spokeswoman said: "There has been some rainfall in Gloucestershire overnight but, as yet, it has not been excessive. We are continuing to monitor conditions. Forecasts indicate further rainfall in this area throughout the day."
Flood barriers were being put up by the Environment Agency throughout the night.

The latest bout of bad weather comes less than a week after heavy rain across north Wales flooded properties and busied fire and rescue crews throughout the region. However the fire service in this area said they had not received any calls regarding flood problems on Tuesday morning.
Mid and West Wales Fire Service said it had received calls about blocked drains threatening properties in New Quay in Ceredigion and Letterston in Haverfordwest.
South Wales Fire Service had also received flood calls. So far there are reports of flooding on Station Road in Abergavenny. One property and six vehicles there have been flooded, while other homes are being threatened by rising water.

Some homes in Abergavenny were flooded on Monday
The Met Office has warned that parts of Wales could experience more flooding as heavy rain is expected across the country on Friday and Saturday. Transport networks could be disrupted as rain falls on ground that is already saturated, said forecasters. Exposed areas in the west are most at risk with up to 100mm (4in) of rain possible by the end of Saturday. Roads and homes were flooded and three people were rescued from cars after heavy rain in Wales earlier this week. On Thursday evening the Environment Agency Wales had four flood warnings and three flood watches for Wales. The Met Office issued an early severe weather warning for Friday and Saturday in Wales. It advised people to take extra care and refer to the latest Environment Agency information and to Traffic Wales for advice on road conditions. In Carmarthenshire, teams of council staff are on standby in case of any emergencies.
Environment executive board member Pam Palmer said: "We are advising motorists to take extra care and be mindful of the driving conditions, particularly during rush hours. "Travel conditions could be difficult in many parts of Carmarthenshire." The heaviest rain is likely to fall on the exposed upland areas of Wales like the Brecon Beacons, the Cambrian mountains and Snowdonia, said BBC Wales weatherman Derek Brockway.
"The problem is we have already had a fair amount of rain this month and some rivers are swollen so it won't take too much more rain to cause further problems, especially in low-lying areas," he said. "Strong winds will be an additional hazard. "The advice is to keep a close eye on the forecast." Many rivers are already very full and Doug Whitfield, national flood warning duty officer at the Environment Agency, said officers were closely monitoring the rivers Wye, Dee and Severn. On Monday, three people were rescued from cars after becoming stranded in flooding near Crymych, Pembrokeshire and in Newtown and Caerhowell in Powys. Three homes in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, were flooded and a landslide also blocked a road in Tintern. Meanwhile, the Welsh Conservatives have called for the establishment of an all-Wales flood defence agency. Darren Millar said flooding problems would be better dealt with by one body rather than the current system which sees the Environment Agency, local authorities, landowners and the Welsh Assembly Government sharing responsibility.

Parts of Tewkesbury remain under water
Parts of the UK are braced for more flooding as the Environment Agency warns of "intense bursts of rain". A Met Office severe weather warning is in place for much of Wales, with heavy rain expected overnight. Heavy rain will also affect western England. The rain is expected to swell rivers, raising the risk of flooding for the Midlands and the South West. Severe weather has already closed roads, hit travel and threatened homes across England and Wales this week.

Homeowners in parts of England and Wales are still on flood alert after forecasts of more heavy rain over the weekend.
Nearly 50 flood warnings are in place, with Wales, the Midlands and northern England most at risk.
But an Environment Agency spokesman said the situation was not as serious as it had been in the summer. The greatest threat was from persistent and heavy rain falling on already saturated ground.
Drivers are being warned to take extra precautions
'Saturated'
David King, of the Environment Agency, said: "The situation at the moment is reasonably stable, but our focus is on the weather forecast for Sunday and Monday, because there is a band of pretty heavy rain that is forecast.
"If that actually transpires then of course the ground is saturated. The rivers are full and they're more likely to see more flooding."
Mr King added: "We're particularly worried about the Severn Valley - right from Shrewsbury right down through Gloucester - but also the north of the country, particularly Yorkshire, Oxfordshire and indeed part of Cambridgeshire."
The BBC weather service said rain would continue to fall across Wales, the Midlands and northern England throughout Sunday and into Monday.

Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding across Northern Ireland and has led to treacherous driving conditions on many roads. The Met Office has posted warnings of severe weather. Roads in counties Antrim, Down, Armagh and Fermanagh have been particularly affected.
The A1 road between Newry and Belfast is flooded at many points. The BBC's Declan McConaghy, who is stuck in traffic on the road, said motorists could expect long delays.
