JAKARTA (JP): Weather forecasters at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency have predicted light rain will continue to fall on most of Greater Jakarta over the coming days.
The agency said the downpours that pounded Jakarta and its neighboring cities Monday and Tuesday were a normal phenomenon after weeks of extreme heat. "Temperatures have reached between 32 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees in the past two days, causing a high rate of evaporation at sea. That intense evaporation generated the rain," said Mezak Rataq, the head of the agency's research and development center. "Rain will fall in the next three days but the intensity will continue to decrease each day."
Heavy rainfall Tuesday hit areas in Jakarta, West Java, Banten and Lampung provinces, reaching an average depth of 20 millimeters. The BMG's weather monitoring station recorded the highest level of rain in East Jakarta. The rain caused serious traffic congestion in most part of the capital.
