Zinkgaten ontstaan daar de laatste jaren steeds vaker.

In een veld in Resadiye - in de buurt van Karapinar zijn 2 zinkgaten ontstaan. Beiden in een veld, waar 8 maanden geleden ook al een zinkgat was ontstaan. Het eerste gat onstond 15 februari, had een doorsnede van 4 meter en was 20 meter diep. Het tweede ontstond 18 februari en had een doorsnede van 7 meter en was 10 meter diep.

Karapinar ligt in vulkanisch gebied en heeft zo'n 55.000 inwoners, die bezorgd zijn dat de zinkgaten enkele van hun huizen zullen verzwelgen.

De oorzaak van het ontstaan van deze zinkgaten is een combinatie van geologie en de hevige regenval.
In 2015 waren er in 3 maanden tijd 9 zinkgaten ontstaan, waarvan sommigen zelfs 70 meter diep waren.
 

Large sinkholes opening in central Turkey's Konya Province

Two massive sinkholes have opened up in a clover field in the Resadiye neighborhood of Karapinar city, central Turkey's Konya Province over the past few days. Karapinar district, built on a volcanic field, is home to about 55 734 people and an increasing number of sinkholes. Local are expressing fears that some of their homes are about to be swallowed. 

The first sinkhole opened up Friday, February 15, 2019, and is 4 m (13 feet) wide and 20 m (65 feet) deep.
The second sinkhole opened up in the same field at about 03:00 local time Monday, February 18 and is 7 m (22.9 feet) wide and 10 m (32.8 feet) deep.
Karapinar Municipality officials wired off both sinkholes to prevent accidents.

Owner of the field where the holes opened said they heard their dogs barking as one of the holes opened, adding that another similar sinkhole opened up in his field about 8 months ago.

Other sinkholes had emerged in the area in previous years and experts said the geological structure of the region and heavy rainfall contributed to the increase in sinkholes.

On June 29, 2015, the Daily Sabah reported nine new sinkholes opened up around Karapinar in just three months. Some of the holes were about 70 m (230 feet) deep.

The Karapinar city was built on the Karapinar Volcanic Field, consisting of five cinder cones, two lava fields and several explosion crater and maars. Meke Dağı, at 300 m (980 feet) in elevation, is one of the largest cinder cones in the Central Anatolia Region.
