Severe hailstorm hits Mersin, Turkey, producing huge hail accumulations
An isolated severe supercell passed over parts of southern Turkey on Sunday, November 19, 2017, dumping heavy rain and large hailstones, and producing enormous hail accumulations in the port city of Mersin, on the Mediterranean coast.
The rain started falling in the city center around 12:00 local time and soon turned into a full-blown severe thunderstorm, catching drivers unprepared and forcing residents to seek shelter.
Large hail covered roofs of buildings and cars while heavy rain flooded buildings and roads, causing traffic chaos, local media reported.
Authorities said huge hailstones damaged numerous vehicles.
