An EF0 tornado touched down in the Hickory section Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirms.
The tornado had wind speeds up to 80 miles per hour and had a path of about 4.7 miles, said meteorologist Andrew Zimmerman.
As far as Virginia Beach, which saw about 20 homes in Sandbridge damaged Thursday, Zimmerman said the center will survey the area Friday.
"There's damage in the Sandbridge area that could possibly be tornado damage," he said.
