Strong M6.3 earthquake hits near the coast of Mindanao, Philippines
A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.3 hit near the coast of Mindanao, Philippines at 22:53 UTC on September 23, 2016. The agency is reporting a depth of 65 km (40.4 miles). EMSCregistered M6.4 at a depth of 52 km (32.3 miles). PHIVOLCS is reporting M6.5 a depth of 38 km (23.6 miles).

According to the USGS, the epicenter was located 35.8 km (22.2 miles) SE of Tamisan (population 2 866), 51 km (31.7 miles) SE Mati (population 105 908), 63.2 (39.3 miles) SE of Lupon (population 27 247), 70.6 km (43.9 miles) S of Manay (population 20 336), and 110.8 km (68.8 miles) ESE of Davao (1 212 504), Philippines.
There are 687 841 people living within 100 km (62 miles).
Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake, PTWC said.
“There was no report of damage yet, but since the quake was offshore, we expect no significant damage,” PHIVOLCS chief Renato Solidum told AFP.
