One persistent thunderstorm produced five of the tornado touchdowns. The first tornado touchdown took place at 1:15 p.m. at Bangor in Van Buren County. The second touchdown was at 1:45 p.m. five miles southeast of Fennville in Allegan County. There were trees down and damage to a house. At 2:23 p.m., the next tornado touchdown occurred three miles west-northwest of Dorr in Ottawa County. Trees and powerlines were downed near 20th and Adams. There were multiple reports of a tornado.

The fourth tornado touchdown happened three miles north-northwest of Byron Center in Kent County. At 2:38 p.m. debris was noted in the sky and another tornado touchdown occurred. The National Weather Service called this touchdown location one mile southeast of Grandville. It seems the most extensive damage happened in this area.
The storm weakened just as it entered the Grand Rapids area. At the same time, another thunderstorm produced the final tornado touchdown two miles northeast of Orleans in Ionia County.
