LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -The family of a young man who was killed by a lightning strike in North Alabama is speaking out just a little over a week after his untimely death. Hunter Blankenship, 20, was struck by lightning in Lawrence County while he was outside his home watching a storm.
Hunter was a meteorology student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was in school to study atmospheric sciences, but he didn't want be on the news," his mother Kim Blankenship said. "He wanted to work for NASA or the National Weather Service, or he wanted to be on the of those tornado chasers. Hunter's mom is still mourning her son's loss at such a young age and with a bright future ahead of him. Right now she is taking it day by day.
