Om San Antonio (Texas) lopen de straten onder water door aanhoudende zware regenval. Doppler beelden laten zien, dat er zeker 17cm is gevallen. In het eerste half uur steeg stand van de rivier met 2,5meter en in het opvolgende uur met 4,2meter. Momenteel is waterstand in de rivier volgens de NWS 7,2m (27 feet).

1:30 PM: Flash Flood Emergency continues for the San Antonio Metro Area. According to NWS San Antonio, nearly all the rivers and streams of Bexar county have experienced extraordinary flooding. A record crest was reported on the San Antonio River at Loop 410 around 10 AM this morning. Dozens of high water rescues and flooded homes occurred earlier today.

Er is een "flash flood emergency" uitgeroepen in San Antonio. Door de zware regenval zijn meerdere vluchten op het San Antonio International Airport vertraagd. In San Antonio in Texas zijn twee vrouwen om het leven gekomen nadat de rivier uit zijn oevers trad ten gevolge van hevige stortbuien. Minstens tweehonderd mensen moesten geëvacueerd worden uit hun huizen of auto's. De ene vrouw werd door de overstroming van de San Antonio rivier uit haar auto gesleurd. Ze probeerde nog bovenop het dak van haar auto te wachten tot er hulp kwam, maar een tijd later werd ze dood teruggevonden aan de kant van de stroom. De andere vrouw, die vermoedelijk rond de 60 was, werd weggesleurd toen brandweermannen haar probeerden te redden uit haar auto. "Onze telefoon houdt niet op met rinkelen", aldus woordvoerder van de brandweer, Christian Bove. De autoriteiten voerden inmiddels al meer dan 235 evacuaties uit. Ook nu gaan de reddingsacties nog steeds voort.

Vrijdag werden inwoners van San Antonio en Austin al gewaarschuwd dat het risico op overstromingen groot was. Zaterdag bereikte de San Antonio rivier een recordniveau van 10,5 meter, wat bijna een meter hoger was dan het vorige record uit oktober 1998 (9,75 meter). De burgemeester van San Antonio raadt zijn inwoners aan om voorlopig niet met de auto buiten te komen.

Een volgende ronde van zware buien trekt in het westen van Texas richting de reeds ondergelopen San Antonio regio. Een nieuws "flash flood warning" is afgegeven voor het gebied tussen Uvalde en Kerrville. Het kan zo'n 5-7cm per uur gaan regenen. Helaas trekt dit regengebied ook over San Antonio heen. Nu de grond meer dan verzadigd is en de rivieren volgelopen zijn is er niet veel voor nodig om wijdverspreide overstromingen te veroorzaken.
