JAKARTA (JP): Earthquake measuring 5.9 degree in Richter Scale Thursday hit western coastal areas of Aceh province, but there was no immediate report of tsunami, damage or fatality.
Meteorology and Geophysics (BMG) said in its website that epicenter of the tremor occurring at 9.01 local time was in 65 kilometers northwest of Sinabang's town in the province.
People living along western coastal area like in Meulaboh and Sinabang towns felt the earthquake, Antara news agency reported, citing information from local BMG office.
BMG's local official Syahnan said the tremor did not cause any residents' panic.
Aceh was hit by Earthquake measuring 9.2 in Richter Scale in late 2004, sparking devastating tsunami, killing over 200,000 people in Indonesia and several other Asian countries.
