*JULY 2011*
*02/07/2011 - 05/07/2011*
High pressure remains strong enough to provide all areas at least a few days of something akin to summer as it'll be dry, settled and feeling reasonable warm in the sunshine and light winds, make the most of this benign weather as it is 'too good to last'.
*05/07/2011 - 20/07/2011*
If I were being overly pessimistic then the whole of this period I would pencil in more akin to early autumn rather than mid-summer as there is little summery weather on offer at least in the shorter term, it looks as if the Atlantic may become quite 'active' and throw everything towards the UK that it can muster.
Showers or longer spells of rain will be moving through all areas on a quite brisk flow at times, feeling rather cool at times beneath the cloud and rainy areas; obviously remaining areas that are favoured with any lengthier drier and brighter interludes will feel the benefit of the strength of mid-summer sunshine, but these will be the fortunate few.
Any drier and brighter spells are likely to be transitory through this period, quickly shunted out the way by further bands of rain and cloudier areas associated with low pressure tracking close to the UK.
*21/07/2011 - 31/07/2011*
This is perhaps where we may look back on the year and say that summer 'peaked' here as the prospects after this period don't look too promising, so get out and enjoy what may be on offer here while it lasts?
High pressure should be building to the southwest and then ridge into the UK, so the weather settles and become warmer everywhere as an anticyclone controls the pattern. All areas look set to become rather warm for a time and feeling a bit more humid later as winds fall lighter with the flow coming in on a gentle westerly breeze.
The north and northwest may cloud over later with some patchy rain and drizzle later, perhaps a more widespread erosion to cloudier conditions countrywide is anticipated, although southern Britain should remain mainly dry and fair with broken cloud. Low pressure edging up from the southeast may threaten southern Britain with scattered showers later.
*AUGUST 2011*
The indications are that high pressure will be situated just to the west, the UK however likely to be remaining under the influence of a slow moving area of low pressure, all areas seeing a continuation of rather showery weather, these most concentrated across eastern Britain, western areas closest to high pressure drier and brighter. Drier and brighter conditions should edge eastwards through all areas for a time as a weak area of high pressure crosses the country although this is not expected to be long-lived as further cloud and rain is expected to move into western areas.
This could herald quite a deterioration in the conditions as all the evidence that is available suggests that the remainder of August will be quite unsettled indeed, with very little in the way of settled weather on offer. Low pressure looks as if it'll be dominating the whole of the pattern from the second week of the month right through until the end of the month.
The remainder of August could therefore be summed up into the phrase 'cool and unsettled'. Low pressure could become stalled over the top of the UK, becoming complex with one centre being quickly replaced by another as it meanders around the country. There is the potential for it to be quite breezy at times especially as we approach the end of the month? Heavy and thundery showers may be breaking out and these could merge into lengthier spells of rain at times, so feeling cool everywhere for high summer.
I hope for once that this forecast is proved to be off beam as this may definitely not be a summer month?
Vorig jaar prachtig weer in Zeeland.
