Tornado Touches Down in Charlotte-Area
Storms ripped through parts of the North Carolina Piedmont Sunday. The National Weather Service issues tornado warnings, which remained in effect until 9:30 pm, for Southwestern Rowan, Northern Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties. According to the NWS, at 8:56 pm doppler radar continued to indicate a tornado. This tornado was located near Croft...or 7 miles Northwest of UNC Charlotte - moving northeast at 40 mph.
We're told a tornado watch remains in effect until 11:00 pm Sunday evening for Northeast Georgia and Western North Carolina and Central South Carolina.
