The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the north tropical coast and tablelands. And wet weather has caused power supply problems to Ergon Energy customers across much of the state. Power lines have come down in the Kuranda area near Cairns in far north Queensland, affecting supply to about 1,100 consumers.
Ergon says it could be mid-morning before supply is restored as there are major access problems because of heavy rain. There are also power problems in areas surrounding Blackall, Bluff and Dingo in central Queensland, at Cunnamulla in the south-west and at Normanton in the far north. The Landsborough Highway remains closed between Longreach and Barcaldine, due to flooding.
