Severe storms have pelted South Australia with big hailstones and brought down trees and power lines. A fierce storm has damaged property including the roof of the hospital at Elliston on western Eyre Peninsula. The storm hit the town just before 9:00am ACST. Andrea Taylor at the local caravan park said it dumped hailstones up to three centimetres across.
There's some dents on bonnets, roofs, sunroofs are damaged, she said. I've rung up the council and they've got damage done to their cars. It was a quite ferocious little storm. There was rain after the white stuff and a massive thunderstorm. I saw lightning strike one of the trees in the park. At Lock, a resident Theresa Burrows said she had to pull over to the side of the road because of the extreme weather.
The bitumen road you cannot see it, just looks like someone's come along and dumped ice as far as you can see down the road, she said. More...
