Extreme weather continues to create problems for Tasmanian motorists and property owners. Snow, ice and wind have all caused havoc on Tasmanian roads, particularly in highland areas. Two houses have lost roofs at Claremont in the state's south. While the flood threat in the north of the state has eased, winds have brought down trees and blocked roads in north east.
But David James from the Bureau of Meteorology says the north-west of the state has been the hardest hit. "We've seen some pretty good gusts going through the north-west coast," he said. "Luncheon Hill, while it's not a population centre, recorded a gust of around 120 kilometres an hour, and it's quite likely that some of the population centres in the north-west might have seen something along those lines.
The pinnacle road to Mount Wellington has been closed due to snow, and the Hobart City Council has closed the main tip due to high winds and rain.

More than 80,000 homes lost power at the peak of yesterday's storm.
The State Emergency Service (SES) took more than 1,500 hundred calls after heavy rain and strong winds raced across the state. Wind gusts reached almost 130 kilometres an hour in some places, bringing down trees and damaging houses. About 6,000 homes are still without power in Melbourne's eastern suburbs and the Dandenong ranges.
Natasha Whalley from power company SP Ausnet says crews hope to restore power by this afternoon. "The wind affected SP Ausnet's network, which is the outer-metro region, at around seven or eight clock last night," she said. "There were some delays with crews being able to get into some of those areas, due to safety concerns." "So most of those customers have been off overnight and we're trying our very best to get them back on as quickly as we can." she said.
Dean Stewart from the Weather Bureau says strong winds are forecast along the coast this afternoon. "I think most of the suburbs will gust around 80 kilometres an hour this afternoon," he said. "But there's still a chance that we could see the odd gust close to 100kph, so we've still got that severe weather warning out, but not to the same extent as yesterday."
