THE Bunbury region has been smashed by a violent storm which ripped through the area late this morning, bringing destructive 125km/h winds. The South Bunbury region has borne the brunt of the storm, with at least a 14 homes suffering roof or structural damage and more than 60 others reporting some damage. Powerlines were also ripped down by high winds and falling trees.
More than 100 FESA State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers braved cold, wet and windy conditions to help more than 100 people affected by the widespread storm that swept across Perth and the South-West last night and this morning. The majority of calls for help came from South Bunbury where a tornado packing destructive winds in excess of 125km/h hit around 11am.
Four homes lost their roofs, 10 had major structural damage and there were a further 63 homes with minor damage. More than 60 SES volunteers from as far away as Mandurah, Bridgetown and Augusta/Margaret River assisted. Western Power said about 7000 resident are without power.
