A tornado touched down in a rural area of Goshen County in southeastern Wyoming. A dispatcher for the Goshen County Sheriff's Office says there were no reports of damage from the Friday afternoon event. National Weather Service forecaster Scott Carpenter in Cheyenne says the tornado touched down at 4:06 p.m. about 13 miles west-southwest of the town of LaGrange. LaGrange is about 50 miles northeast of Cheyenne.
The tornado moved east about 10 miles before breaking up after about 25 minutes on the ground. Live footage on The Weather Channel showed a large funnel cloud moving across flat prairie land.
Video of the tornado was taken by Vortex 2, a crew from The Weather Channel. They have been in the Plains States for the past four weeks. They are a team of mobile Doppler radars sent into the field for six weeks to find tornadoes. But they hadn't found a single one, until Friday.
