Severe weather conditions has led to erosion and road closures in north-east Victoria. Heavy rains and strong winds have caused landslides in Beechworth and surrounding areas over the past 24 hours.
The Bureau of Meteorology says similar problems are expected in parts of south-east Melbourne overnight. Senior forecaster Dean Stewart says a severe weather warning has been issued for south and west Gippsland. We're expecting falls of 20 to 30 millimetres. We're also expecting quite strong winds averaging 60 to 70 kilometres per hour with gusts up around 90 kilometres per hour, he said.
The bureau says recent fire activity has left the soil loose, and prone to erosion.
