A British couple have died in an avalanche in the Pyrenees.
Mike Hall, 53, a violinist with the Manchester-based Halle Orchestra, and his wife Dorothy, a cellist, were swept away in the snow while on holiday. The Foreign Office said it was notified of the accident, which happened on Wednesday, by local police. The couple, from Didsbury in Manchester, were staying at a campsite in the Luz St Sauveur area. They have two children, both aged in their 20s.
'Most generous'
Michael Denton, 25, a neighbour said: "You could not wish to meet nicer people. They were the most generous, kind, levelled people who would do absolutely anything for anybody else. "They were the most genuine people you could wish to meet." The couple lived in Attwood Road for more than 26 years. Mr Hall is believed to be one of the longest serving musicians with the Halle and his wife was a cellist who had played with both the Halle and BBC Philharmonic.
