Five people have been killed and 47 injured in a severe storm in central Argentina that has prompted mass evacuations. Intense rain and winds of more than 90 kilometres per hour lashed the city of Rosario and nearby areas, uprooting hundreds of trees and destroying power cables.
Two men and a young girl were electrocuted in separate incidents where high tension power lines were brought down. The other two casualties died when a large church marquee fell on them. According to the Civil Defence Service, the intensity of the storm also caused flooding, especially in poorer areas.
Meteorologists predict that the worst of the storm has passed but more rain is expected until the weekend.
