Ice and snowfall has been causing problems for motorists in parts of Greater Manchester. Up to two inches (5cm) of snow fell on higher ground in the east overnight, with Oldham and Middleton bearing the brunt of the flurries.
In one incident, a car crashed into a house in Grimshaw Lane, Middleton. Police said no-one was injured. Hazardous driving conditions have also been reported in Saddleworth, Shaw, Mossley, Rochdale and Bolton. A number of motorists have contacted the BBC reporting problems on both minor and major roads.
A band of sleet and snow fell across the region overnight, particularly affecting hilly areas. BBC weather presenter Dianne Oxberry said it was expected to clear later, leaving sunnier conditions.

Schools closed after heavy snow
Dozens of schools in east Lancashire have been closed following heavy snowfall overnight.
More than 40 schools in Rossendale, Pendle, Burnley, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley have confirmed they will remain closed on Tuesday.
Up to four inches (10.1cm) of snow has been reported across parts of the region, which has led to hazardous driving conditions on some roads.
Motorists have contacted the BBC about problems on a number of routes.
BBC Lancashire's traffic and travel service also reported delays and slow moving traffic on a number of major roads.
Delays on the M6 at Lancaster, the A56 between Accrington and the M66, and A6117 at Darwen were all reported.
John Dearden, who runs a school bus service from Darwen, said he was experiencing problems getting the vehicles to schools.
"We're in Darwen at the moment and it has stopped snowing, but underneath the slush there's a coating of ice and we're struggling to get out of the garage in our area."
Schools in the north, south and west are not affected and a full list of closures is available on the BBC Lancashire website.

Rochdale Council has recommended that all 92 of its schools shut and more than 100 are closed in Lancashire. Police are warning drivers to only make necessary journeys. Trans-Pennine roads, including the M62, are affected. The road between Greenfield in Oldham and Holmfirth has been shut, after gritters failed to keep it clear. Grane Road between Blackburn and Haslingden is also closed.
Lancashire police has urged drivers to travel prepared with enough fuel for their journeys, de-icer and warm clothing. Insp Phil Cottam, of the Lancashire police motorway unit, said: "Even routine journeys can spell disaster if you are caught out by bad weather." On Tuesday, after heavy snow, cars were abandoned in parts of east Lancashire and north Bury as motorists continued their journeys on foot.
Car thefts
Cumbria County Council has announced that 16 of its schools will not be open. In Bolton, eight schools are shut, 10 closures have been announced in Bury, 10 in Oldham and one in Wigan. Despite closure advice in Rochdale, three schools are open.
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning with further wintry showers forecast until lunchtime in the region. Officers in Greater Manchester and Merseyside are warning drivers not to leave their cars running while they defrost them. In Greater Manchester 20 thefts have been reported since Monday.

Up to six inches of snow fell in parts of northern England and south east Scotland as wet weather from the west met cold air that has been sitting over the country.
Strong winds caused drifting, forcing roads to shut and causing lane closures on dual carriageways on higher ground. Parts of the A1 in Northumberland were down to one lane. In Lancashire, the Army was mobilised to rescue 70 people trapped in their vehicles by heavy snow on the Grane Road between Helmshore and Blackburn. The road remained closed for four hours.
Yorkshire, Northumberland, Cumbria and Greater Manchester were also badly affected, forcing some schools to close for the third day in a row. Rochdale council recommended that all 92 schools in its area remained closed while 100 schools were shut in Lancashire. Another 16 schools were closed in Cumbria and ten in Bury.
Police warned drivers in the area to make only necessary journeys with trans-Pennine routes, including the M62, affected by the cold snap. They also urged drivers to travel with enough fuel for their journeys and with de-icer and warm clothing. In parts of Yorkshire there were "accidents all over the place" with cars skidding in icy conditions before temperatures began to rise later in the day.
Hospitals outside Glasgow have reported record accident and emergency emissions this week because of the number of people falling on icy roads and pavements. The Met Office had a severe weather warning win place in the north of England until early afternoon and temperatures were expected to fall below zero again overnight.
Scotland fared better than expected after the widespread blizzards that were predicted failed to appear. Dumfries and Galloway was worst hit but Aviemore in the Highlands, where some of the heaviest snowfalls were expected, escaped with only an inch of snow. Elsewhere, drifting snow closed several high level roads in the Highlands.
The cold snap has also resulted in dozens of car thefts with gangs targeting vehicles that have been left running to defrost outside their owners' homes. Conditions are expected to improve over the weekend, with frosty nights but sunshine during the day in many areas.

Brits leger redt 70 gestrande chauffeurs uit sneeuwstorm
België kreeg deze week een winterprikje dat vooral in de Ardennen voor problemen en een pak sneeuw zorgde, maar dat is nog niks vergeleken bij de sneeuwstorm die Wales, het noorden van Engeland en Schotland teisterde. Het leger moest zelfs ingezet worden om 70 gestrande chauffeurs te redden in Lancashire.
600 scholen dicht
Tijdens een reddingsoperatie van vier uur bevrijdde het legerregiment op de volleddig dichtgesneeuwde Grane Road bij Blackburn uit 50 wagens 70 personen. Zij waren de ergste slachtoffers van de sneeuwstorm die een enorme verkeerschaos ontketende. Er waren ook ontelbare ongevallen door slippartijen. Verder moesten liefst 600 scholen noodgedwongen gesloten worden. Dat was dan weer het pluspunt van de ellende, want de schoolkinderen konden op een onverwachte vrije dag van de sneeuwpret genieten.
Witte Kerstmis?
Een groep van vier bergbeklimmers verdwaalde in Derbyshire door de sneeuwstorm en moest de nacht in de vrieskou doorbrengen. Pas om acht uur 's morgens werden ze gered door de hulpdiensten. Ze hadden geen noodkledij of mondvoorraad bij. De overvloedige sneeuw doet de kans op een witte Kerstmis in Groot-Brittannië weer vergroten. De gokkantoren zetten sneeuw in Schotland op 25 december nu al op 2/1.
